Food for thought for the day....do you think blogging is dying off??
I've noticed that so many great blogs/bloggers have stopped posting, and I myself don't post with anywhere near the regularity I used to. So what do you think is to blame??
Perhaps the 'bite-size blog' possibly has a part to play? Instagram - I'm looking at you here; and I hold my hands up and will admit guilty as charged where IG is concerned. It is convenient because it's right there in your mobile phone, instant as in you can publish a photo with a few words attached straight away, convenient because the picture filters work mini marvels and there is the sense of community and shared interests that our corner of blogworld has.
For me personally, I do still enjoy writing a post, the preparation has to be more considered these days because of my phone picture taking tendencies, and IG eating up the content of anything remotely photograph worthy. You see, anything worth taking a picture of previously would have then been enveloped into a blog post at some point, and given my blog is a kind of visual diary I don't want to duplicate from one to the other (although I've borrowed a few pics here and there from my IG profile in the past...!)
This isn't intended to be a bashing of poor old Instagram, but perhaps one of the possible explanations why blogging isn't so 'busy' anymore. I follow a fair few blogs, and the quantity of new posts published has dropped considerably in my 'feed'.
Could it also be due to 'fatigue'? Some bloggers have written about their length of time blogging and feeling as though they are regurgitating posts of old in a sense. Others have said their mojo for all things crafty ups and leaves (guilty of that one here many a time too..)
Could it be in part due to Bloglovin taking over? Do you think the loss of Google Reader has played a part as well as the 'upgrades' Blogger subject us to every so often, which confuse all but the most savvy interweb literate - and even them too at times!
However, the written word cannot be emulated with a single picture and a few words - no matter how good...in my humble opinion anyway. Also I love photos and taking them, I love writing, and most of all I love reading my fellow bloggers inventive, thought provoking, moving and inspiring posts, so for those reasons I hope blogging and bloggers long continue.
Please do share your opinions though, I'd love to hear,
